This means that the majority of your diet will consist of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

This sounds pretty simple - but you'd actually be surprised at what you can do with these foods - especially when you add a blender, food processor and a dehydrator into the mix.

For example you can make some delicious chocolate brownies with dates, almonds, raw cocoa and a few other ingredients. How about raw pasta with zucchini and almond cheese?

There's raw nut cheese to spread on your raw flax-sesame crackers - or how about raw blueberry cheesecake for dessert?

For example, on a typical day you might have some granola cereal topped with cold almond milk for breakfast - followed by vegetable pad thai with cashew-banana ice cream for lunch along with lasagna and chocolate pudding for dinner - all 100% raw.

Of course these are more 'gourmet' raw meals, but they do give you an idea of what you can do with some fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds.

The raw food diet is obviously extremely healthy. In fact, many hollywood stars use it to keep themselves looking young and vital on screen. After a few weeks on a raw food diet - your skin will look virtually 10 years younger and your eyes will shine.

So can it help you lose weight? Most people that go on this diet do lose weight - how fast really depends on how much weight they have to lose - and how many nuts they start eating.

Nuts are healthy however they can be high in fat - so if you start of eating tons of cashews and walnuts, then your weight loss will not be as fast. So that's one thing to watch.

Are raw food diets healthy?

Well, that depends on you, your general state of health and how 'raw' you go (for example 50% vs 100%). You don't have to be 100% raw in order to reap the benefits of a raw food diet. In fact, many people start out doing 50% raw - and then work up from there as they learn how to prepare the food.

As with any diet however, you should consult your doctor and have a full health workup before you try the diet.

One thing that people following a 100% raw diet sometimes run into are problems with low B12 (since we mainly get our B12 from red meat) and iron. So those are 2 things you should be careful with. Also remember to include a wide variety of raw foods - you can't just eat salad or bananas every day and expect to get balanced nutrition.

The best way to do this diet right is to take your time and learn from a qualified professional. There are several raw food nutritionists and experts out there that will show you how to prepare raw recipes and lose weight on this type of diet - there are even online programs that show you how.

The most important thing is to go at your own pace and listen to your body. You will not only lose weight - but you'll feel better and be much healthier for it!
